About the Crown & Anchor
Open from 12 noon daily, the Crown & Anchor pub in Sowerby, North Yorkshire is a traditional local pub that is popular with local villagers and tourists alike, attracting many visitors each year from the neighbouring racing town of Thirsk. Although we are very much a local’s local, we also welcome tourists to the North Yorkshire Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales to join us and enjoy Yorkshire hospitality at its best.
Real Yorkshire Food and Drink
In addition to an attractive menu of home-prepared food, we offer a superbly stocked bar including four CAMRA commended real ales and an ever-changing list of guest beers. We use a generous 35 ml measure for serving for spirits, malts and cognacs; and have a wide selection of wines is available by the glass or by the bottle, bottled continental beers and lagers.
Food is served every day except Monday, between 12 noon and 2.00pm for lunch and again from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm for dinner. Plus our Sunday roast is served between 12.30pm and 3.00pm.
Live Entertainment, Charity Coffee Mornings & Festivals
The Crown & Anchor provides regular live entertainment for the locals and visitors of Sowerby & Thirsk, with a variety of popular local bands, barbeques, and festivals. Please see our events diary for news of upcoming festivals throughout the year. Also keen charity fundraisers, the Crown & Anchor hosts occasional coffee mornings – usually on the 1st Tuesday of each month with some exceptions.
Sunday Quiz Night & Weekly Meat Draw
We host a general knowledge ‘FUN’ quiz every Sunday evening at 8.30pm – with many regular teams, a great way to finish the weekend with much banter!
Part of our regular local entertainment every weekend, is the Sunday evening Meat Draw, tickets for which go on sale each Monday, for the chance to win one of two £10 vouchers to spend at Hudson’s of Thirsk. Any surplus proceeds contribute to the New Year’s Eve entertainment programme.
Beer Garden
During the warmer weather our beer garden is an ideal place to relax, enjoy a drink and perhaps a snack or meal. The recent addition of a new outdoor bar further facilitates your summertime leisure and is to be used regularly during hot weather, festivals and corporate events.
Celebrations
Celebrations, parties, corporate events and functions can all be hosted at The Crown & Anchor. We can cater for sit down meals or buffets and advise on menu options according to budget. We can also host summer barbeques with your own dedicated bar but please contact us for more details or to book your dates.
Free Meal on your birthday
Birthday boy or girl gets their main course free when there are four diners or more. There is no catch – the only thing you need to do is bring three other people or more with you, pre-book and bring a proof of id when you dine.
