About the Crown & Anchor

Here in the lovely village of Sowerby just outside Thirsk you will find the recently refurbished Crown & Anchor to be something of a racing certainty. Here we offer a superbly stocked bar including four real ales and an ever changing list of guest beers in addition to an attractive menu of home prepared food.

Open from 12 noon daily, we are proud of our CAMRA commendation in respect of our real ales.  We use the more generous 35 ml measure for serving malts and cognacs and a wide selection of wines is available either by the glass or by the bottle.

We offer a ‘no nonsense’ but very attractive menu of home prepared food using, wherever possible, fresh local produce. Here we recommend advance booking if at all possible.  Food is served every day except Monday, between 12 noon and 2.00pm and again between 6.00 pm and 9.00 pm. 

On Sunday our roast lunch is available between 12 noon and 3.00pm. During the warmer weather our beer garden is an ideal place to relax, enjoy a drink and perhaps a snack or meal whilst inside we have a popular darts board and Sky TV on the large plasma screen

Celebrations, parties and functions generally can be accommodated in various areas of The Crown & Anchor. Here we can cater for sit down meals or buffets and of course advise on menu and budget.  Just please contact us for more detail.

The recent extensive refurbishment of The Crown & Anchor has been carried out with great skill ensuring that the friendly atmosphere and home from home surroundings have been retained completely. At The Crown & Anchor we are proud of our continuing role as a “locals local” whilst at the same time welcoming the tourist to the North Yorkshire Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales to join us and enjoy Yorkshire hospitality at its best.
